Carbodeon Ltd Oy launches a new R&D Lab to produce a material that can be made harder than diamonds
February, 1, 2007
Patented technology to produce Nicanite™ for several application areas.
Carbodeon Ltd Oy, a leading developer and provider of superhard nanomaterials for a wide range of applications, opens a new laboratory for producing Nicanite™ carbon nitride, which can be made harder than diamonds. In addition, in its graphitic form Nicanite™ is an excellent lubricant
“Our new application laboratory uses our patented technology to produce Nicanite™ carbon nitride with a production rate that will allow us to start pilot applications with our key customers. There is a large number of exciting applications for a material that in its diamond lattice form is harder than a diamond, and in its graphitic form an excellent lubricant”, says Dr. Vesa Myllymäki, CEO of Carbodeon.
Dr. Tatja Maunula, Director of R&D, will run the new facility. “Dr. Tatja Maunula has a long experience on the synthesis of various materials, and she has already contributed significantly to Carbodeon’s patented process for producing Nicanite™. The new facility will allow Carbodeon to provide large enough quantities of carbon nitride to meet the needs of commercial coating service providers”, continues Dr. Myllymäki.
Carbodeon’s new application lab is located on the campus of Kemira's Espoo Research Centre, which provides an excellent ecosystem for Carbodeon’s R&D activities.
